Today, Monday the 5th of September, we’ve released the French version of our weekly deals site that showcases a different winery every week. We’re very excited to launch with a fantastic selection from the Despagne Family in Bordeaux.
The Despagne Family are upcoming stars of the Bordeaux region. Deeply rooted in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers, they’re making some serious waves in the wine world and are famous for their know-how and dynamism. Many of their green initiatives have been awarded.
“Anything from the Despagne family performs way, way above its official pedigree”
Robert Parker – Wine Advocate
“The Despagne are crafting some of the best value wines in Bordeaux.”
Roger Voss – Decanter
The above quotes say it all. When our wine buyer, Raphael, met up with Thibault Despagne at Vinexpo last June, he gave us the following quote:
“We believe that modern winemaking techniques, light manipulation of the grapes, a mature fruit and, of course, low yields give us some fantastic results on our little-known terroir. The results speak for themselves.”
Not only do Despagne make really nice wines, but they’re also extremely well priced! If you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking that high quality Bordeaux wines don’t come cheap. Well, this isn’t quite the case, as the Grand Crus represent only 10% of all the wines made in the Bordeaux region and the Grand Crus Classés even less so. Being classed as a generic Bordeaux Supérieur, they evade the international speculation that the Grand Crus are subject too, thus the quality/price ratio remains extremely low.
This week, we’re offering a selection of 3 of their wines, 2 entry-level ones that are both over 90 points and under €15!

And one of their best ones: The Girolate red from 2 excellent vintages (also over 90 points), which was acclaimed by the critics for its astonishing result.
